Smouldering Beauty for New Year’s Eve
If you google New Year’s makeup, you will likely find looks that makes mine look mild in comparison. So many beautiful options to choose from, but I really do not like to look overly made up. And as someone who is “older”, I have to be more mindful of the colors and trends that I choose. For example, gluing gems on my lids doesn’t work for me nor do strong metallics, as they can accentuate eye wrinkles. Add impatient to the mix, and I just want a ‘wow’ look without it taking too much time. Am I asking for too much?
As far as I’m concerned, a smokey eye is always a win no matter what. Add some sparkle, and you got yourself a delicate yet smouldering glam look for New Year’s Eve or any time, really. Oh, and carry a cat for even more dramatic effect. That’s a must!
Do you have somewhere to go and need a bit of makeup inspiration? Here’s how you can create a smokey eye for New Year’s Eve with a touch of sparkle and plum:
Here’s what I used
Urban Decay Vice palette (Pandemonium and Bitter)
L’Oréal Paris Infallible eye crayon in midnight charcoal
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Nude Palette
Nars Torrid Blush
Marc Jacob Kiss Kiss Bang Bang lip creme
Urban Decay Quiver lip gloss
L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur foundation in Sand Beige
L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Concealer in Light 302
L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Designer in Blonde

Here’s what I did:
- Before adding my foundation, I applied my eye makeup. I always do this first, as it’s much easier to clean should eye shadow particles fall on your cheeks
- I gently applied the UD primer potion onto my lids. Don’t add too much, as it can cake up.
- With eye crease brush I added a bit of UD Bitter on my creases and blended
- Once my primer and eye crease color was applied, I lined my lower and upper lid with the L’Oreal eye crayon liner (not perfectly) and then used a blender brush to soften it up
- I blended the black up my eye lids to create a fading effect into the the eye crease
- Blend, blend, blend
- Once that was done, I dabbed the PF shimmer to my lids for sparkle
- Mascara was next and done. For a more dramatic effect, you can add false lashes. I didn’t use any this time, but I love Urban Decay’s Fast, Easy, Partial false lashes (you can see them here). They’re much easier to apply and they look natural
- Next, I added my foundation, concealer and colored in my eyebrows
- To create a plum lip color, I mixed Marc Jacobs Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Urban Decay’s Quiver
