Currently
I would like to start a new series on this blog simply called Currently. It will be my recap of what’s happening in my life as a mom, business owner and perennial. I will share what I’m into and whatever pops into my head as I embark on this new entrepreneurial and mom of adult (but I still listen to hip-hop and don’t get it twisted) chapter in my life.
Here we go…
Wow. It’s been quite a week. It was certainly what the beginnings of entrepreneurial dreams and nightmares are made of. It’s been up and down. Up and down. I know this is to be expected, but it’s a whole other game when it’s happening to you.
The week started with an awesome in-person meeting and two interesting and promising phone conversations. I was feeling pretty awesome, especially after my meeting last week with a client who wanted to go over proposals for the new year. Things were looking up, and I’ve been doing the happy dance for several days straight.
And then yesterday happened.
I had an in-person meeting scheduled yesterday with a potential client who is ready to move forward. I was excited about getting to the next step but LA had different plans for me. The traffic was insane. And then my GPS lost its connection and I somehow ended up at the right address…in the wrong city! The weirdest part about this is that the addresses were about 5 miles apart. Because that’s LA for you.
Needless to say, I was already a good 40 minutes late. The potential client had back to back meetings all day, and was not able to accommodate me later in the day. Yep, I had to go back home. I had to brave the traffic on the 10w yet again. Talk about a frustrating experience. Oh, and did I mention that my GPS pretty much gave me the scenic route back home? I mean, it’s not even Mercury Retrograde. What gives?
When I got home, I decided to resolve this whole situation with a good, long nap. I needed to just come down from the adrenaline of being late while in the midst of traffic, and the stress that I put on myself because not being punctual to a meeting is just a bit no-no for me. The nap (along with my essentials oils) diffuser did wonders. It shifted my perspective and I stopped beating myself up about it. It was out of my control and all I can do is hope it will all work out in the end.
And then, just like that, things changed yet again. This morning I received a phone call about an opportunity I was hoping to get, and I got it! I start next week. I will share more details soon! I’m going to sit with this joy for a bit.
To keep myself grounded and focused (because you got to in this crazy journey), I consume a good amount of videos from people who inspire me. Here’s what I’ve been into (and have been getting myself into) the last few weeks:
- The 4 hour body slow carb diet by Tim Ferris – Here’s an article about it.
- The truth about work life balance with Marie Forleo and Grace Bonney.
- Kris Carr’s simple tips to support your goals in the new year.
- Card readings on Facebook
- Revamping the Blue Lotus Collective site
- Officially an Alt Summit 2018 speaker
Hope you have a great weekend. We may do a little celebration dinner here – just because. My fiance and I have been working really hard. We deserve the treat. Plus, the slow carb diet allows for one cheat day, which basically means margaritas to me!
