Without the journey, there is no meaning
The weather feels so wonderful right now in LA. I love it. I spent the weekend working on a video shoot and spending time with friends – laughing, eating – Just celebrating life. However, there is one thing that stands out in my head the most. It was a question posed by my friend’s son, who is applying to college and wants to pursue a life in the arts. On the drive back home, as we discussed art, the museum world, galleries … he looks over to me and says ‘Are you where you want to be?’
Absolutely.
I am where I want to be because I would not be able to create stories (whether through performance, painting, or a curatorial project) without life experiences … without journeys that led me down different paths. I am still walking. In the journey is exactly where I want to be.
When I talk to an artist about his work, when I draw, when I wake up in the morning, when I teach and when I tuck my angel to bed …
Yes … yes, I am exactly where I want to be.
