The green jumpsuit

I was hoping to photograph the jumpsuit I wore to #WeAllGrowMIA when I was there (the space was adorable), but that did not happen. Apparently my body can no longer handle heat and humidity because I was already a mess an hour into the event. My hair went up as the sweat poured down my face, leaving no evidence that I had gotten up at 4am for hair and makeup. Los Angeles weather has spoiled me down to the core.

The green jumpsuit

Since I couldn’t get the shot on the east coast, here it is on the west coast. I had to share details about this jumpsuit because 1. Many have asked me about it 2. The hanger did it no justice.

I walked into Anthropologie and grabbed several gorgeous dresses to try on but I really wanted a jumpsuit. There were two at the time. One that wasn’t my size and this one. On the hanger, it looked like a maxi and I wasn’t a fan of it at all. I grabbed it anyway because, hey, you never know. I tried on all of the pieces but none of them worked. Ready to give up, I tried on the jumpsuit and, wait, what? This ties around my waist and drapes down the side of my legs? What’s this majestic drapery? Oh? It has pockets? Yes, yes, yes. It was so flattering, I had to have it.

I mean, I know that you can’t judge an outfit by the way it looks on the hanger. We all know this, right? But we still judge right away. And for many of us, trying out clothes in a dressing room can be a daunting experience. I go through it all the time. I see something I love on a hanger, try it and fail. It can be discouraging. But I’ve learned to grab several items with the “you never know” attitude. Those usually end up working.

Right now, this is one my favorite pieces. I also wore this to BlogHer for my presentation about Visual Communication, and it was so comfortable. It was a two day event so I also wore this comfy dress by Lou & Grey. What I love is that it doesn’t need much to style it. Simple accessories and a sexy heel bring it all together. If you’re busy doing 100 things a day, jumpsuits are the best. Except for when you need to go to the restroom, especially on an airplane. Don’t do that. Unfortunately, I did. On a six hour flight, and regretted it every time I tried zipping up in that tiny box. But if you have a special event coming up or you just want to get a few low-fuss but chic looks, then get yourself one or two.

Oh, and if you want to see pictures from #WeAllGrowMIA, head over to the #WeAllGrow Latina Network Facebook page. If you’re not familiar with it, it was a one day event designed for Latina Influencers who are killing it in the online world. This one happened to be in Miami but we go to different cities every year in addition to hosting our main event, #WeAllGrow Summit.
