Philly nights

Lush jumpsuit

Please excuse the silence. I had out of town guests, and if you work from home, I’m sure you can understand how hard it is to get projects done. I’ve been dying to sit and go through all of my #VisitPhilly pictures, which deserved my undivided attention. Here’s my first of several posts I’d like to share of my experience in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. We did way too much to wrap into one post. From the moment we landed to the second we boarded, we were kept very busy with all of the fun and interesting things Philly has to offer. Before I dive into the food (I have a post coming up for the vegans) and the tourist attractions, I need to start with Hotel Monaco because it’s where I kicked back to relax between cocktails, art and segwaying through the city (yes! your girl hopped on a segway). Plus, it’s gorgeous and I want everyone to stay there when they visit Philly.

The evening we arrived, we wasted no time. Monique and I checked into our rooms and met in the lobby to take advantage of their complimentary wine for guests. Between the hours of 5pm-7pm, you can grab yourself a glass (or two), play a game of chess or just relax. You didn’t have to tell me twice. Wine? Yes, please. It’s just one of the many perks of staying this stylish and beautiful boutique hotel.

We sipped, we laughed (and reminisced about meeting Charles Barkley at the airport. He was on our flight. Yes, that happened. And yes, we asked for a picture!) and met up with our South Jersey amiga Ruby for some eats. We arrived a day before to ensure that we would be ready to tackle the itinerary in the morning.

Do I even need to explain this picture? There really wasn’t much to do after I ate this because I had a nice case of food coma coupled with jet lag complicated by wine on an empty stomach. But that’s what happens when you go to Philly. You want all the things. At the same time. This decadent dish can be found at Red Owl Tavern, along with a nice list of vegan and gluten-free options (because Monique and I are “those” people. The ones who have to make an order complicated). Their dishes are a warm and savory welcome to Philly. If you ever visit, you must stop by. They’re located right next door to the hotel. Service and food get a big thumbs up.

So this was my room. Wall to wall eye candy filled with textures, colors, patterns and history juxtaposed with modernity, which is what Kimpton Hotels are known for. The bed and pillows were super cozy, which is important for plopping yourself face-down after a long day. I needed this bed and all of its comfort glory. It is so hard for me to fall asleep in hotels, especially when I’m on the other side of the country from my son. He’s 16, and I still haven’t gotten used to it. Although he was in good hands with my fiancé, I still suffer from mom behavior no matter where I am. What are you doing? Where are you going? I’ll wait up until you get home (hello, 3-hour time difference?). I mean, really. Thankfully the pillows, cheetah print robe and room service tea quieted my mind enough to get some rest.

For after dinners drinks, the Stratus Rooftop Lounge located at the hotel is one of the city’s hot spot with a great selection of gins, scotches, you name it. Not that I drink any of those. I order the same cocktail every time I go out for drinks. Amaretto Sour. Don’t judge. It’s a darn good drink.

Now that you know where I laid my head at night, I can’t wait to share more of what I did. Stay tuned for more posts. In the meantime, if you’d like to know more about what I wore to Stratus Lounge, you can shop the story below!
